A retail theft suspect was recently apprehended following a high-tech operation involving traffic cameras and a drone. The incident began with a theft at an Ulta store, according to the Elk Grove Police Department on their Facebook page, and officers were dispatched to the scene. The suspect, driving a white BMW, fled the area, but law enforcement used surveillance tools to track and capture the individual, who is accused of stealing thousands of dollars' worth of merchandise.
Officials tracked the BMW to a Sephora parking lot using real-time information and traffic surveillance systems. The suspect, 34-year-old Marian Mitroi, had little room to maneuver as a Drone as a First Responder unit was already overhead. The drone pilot confirmed that Mitroi matched the description of the theft suspect provided by Ulta when he exited the car and entered Sephora. Authorities were in position, preparing for the next steps, as reported by the Elk Grove Police Department.
Mitroi was arrested after attempting to flee on foot following a theft at Sephora. During the brief chase, he dropped the stolen merchandise, which helped confirm his involvement in the crime. The investigation revealed that he had stolen goods from four Elk Grove stores, totaling nearly $7,000. He is now facing charges of organized retail theft and grand theft. The Elk Grove Police Department emphasizes their efforts in addressing retail crime and their increased surveillance in the area.
