Last Thursday, Everett firefighters were dispatched to a reported apartment fire at Park 120 Apartments on 120 W Casino Rd. The call, which came in around 6:30 a.m., was triggered by an observant neighbor who noticed smoke and flames in the building and the resident of the impacted unit who found himself trapped with his pets, according to a release from the Everett Fire Department.
Upon arrival, the first responders encountered a man and his dog in distress, located on the second story of the apartment complex. Racing against the clock to save lives, the crew from Aid 6 adeptly positioned a ladder and rescued both the man and his dog from a second-story window, as stated on the Everett Fire Department's official release. While these two lives were spared, the fire claimed the lives of two cats and left another missing in its wake.
Engine 6, tackling the blaze from within, was met with an apartment cluttered with personal items, which created an obstacle during their firefighting efforts. The source of the blaze was identified in the kitchen, and the team worked diligently to stamp out the flames, preventing the spread to adjacent units. It took them under 25 minutes from their arrival to extinguish the fire completely.
The resident, having been rescued, underwent evaluation by EMS for smoke inhalation before being transported to the hospital; he was discharged later that day. In the aftermath, the Everett Fire Marshal's Office conducted a preliminary investigation, which led to the belief that an overloaded electrical outlet in the kitchen likely sparked the fire, igniting combustible materials nearby, the details of which were shared by the Everett Fire Department.
