After Chenoa Nickerson's tragic death in a flood at Havasupai Canyon, her family is honoring her memory through the Chenoa Nickerson "See the Good" Legacy Fund, which supports the performing arts at Christ Greenfield Vocal and Theater Arts. Her husband, Andrew, said, "A big part of her school years, from middle school all the way through college, was performance, anything with music, singing and dancing." They are also raising funds to support the Grand Canyon National Park Search and Rescue team with new equipment and training, grateful for their efforts. Her sister Kyra added, "We were never going to give up on her, and we really had the sense that they weren't either," according to AZFamily and FOX10 Phoenix.
Andrew Nickerson remembers how much Chenoa loved sharing the arts with their daughters, especially through trips to Hale Theatre. The "See the Good" Legacy Fund is already helping improve the theater program at Christ Greenfield School by adding new sound and lighting systems. Lyndsay Ermeling, Director of Vocal Music and Theater, told FOX10 Phoenix that the fund will give students a strong start in their theater work. The Nickerson family also supports the Grand Canyon Conservancy, helping fund search and rescue training. Mindy Riesenberg explained to AZFamily, “We do a lot of search and rescue training, repelling, swift water rescue, logistics,” to keep people safe in the canyon.
In memory of Chenoa Nickerson, the family has established a fund to support both the arts and the Grand Canyon Search and Rescue teams. As these teams respond to hundreds of calls each year, the fund aims to better equip them for their vital work. Tamara Morales shared the family's long-term vision, saying, “We truly believe that this fund will outlive us all. We really want to raise these funds going forward for future families should they ever find themselves in a terrible type or predicament like this.” Donations can be made to the "See the Good" Legacy Fund, with an anonymous donor matching up to $50,000, or to the Grand Canyon Search and Rescue fund to help support their efforts, as stated by AZFamily.
