Authorities are piecing together the tragic events of a fatal collision that occurred in Southeast Washington, resulting in the death of a teenage driver. According to official reports by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, at the intersection of Reed Terrace and Southern Avenue.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a Lexus RC350 driven by 16-year-old Areohn Savoy, with another 16-year-old as the passenger, failed to heed to a stop sign. The vehicle was subsequently struck by a southbound Jeep Wrangler at around 4:12 a.m. that day. The impact trapped both teenagers inside the Lexus, necessitating extraction by emergency services. Desperate efforts to save the driver's life were in vain, as he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. His companion sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening. Meanwhile, occupants in the Jeep escaped physical harm.
Further details emerged when investigators discovered that the Lexus was reported stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland, the previous day. A stolen firearm was also found within the vehicle. Sean Stokes, the 36-year-old driver of the Jeep from Clinton, MD, didn't escape the situation unscathed in a legal sense.
