The New Orleans Recreation Development Commission is bringing its festive flair to the city once again with its 5th annual Holiday in the Park celebration. Nestled in the heart of Joe W. Brown Memorial Park, the event lights up New Orleans East from yesterday through January 2, 2025. This year’s installation boasts an array of attractions including a mix of drive-through and walk-through experiences available each evening until 9:30 p.m.

With its inception five years back, Holiday in the Park has become a beacon of winter cheer in a city known more for its humid summers than its mild winters. The celebration features an array of shining lights, lively music, and local food, bringing residents together in a warm community milieu. Families can wander amidst the holiday decor and even leave letters to Santa for kids at the Joe W. Brown Gym, as reported by NOLA.gov.

Furthermore, this year marks an expansion of activities beyond the central park's boundaries. Tomorrow, the Morris F.X. Jeff Recreation Complex will sparkle to life at dusk with its special lighting event. Just a few days later on Saturday, the NORD Administration Building on the Milne Recreation Campus will follow suit with its own evening of illuminated celebration.

"NORD is proud to bring the magic of the holiday season to communities across New Orleans through our annual Holiday in the Park celebration and expanded lighting events this year," said Larry Barabino, Jr., CEO of NORD Commission. The organization, supported by a chorus of partners, sponsors, and councilmembers including Oliver Thomas (E), Eugene Green (D), and Freddie King (C), is dedicated to crafting spaces that foster connections and memories. The drive comes from a commitment to the community, as NOLA.gov detailed in a recent announcement.
