The Hotel Marysville, once a local landmark, is now being dismantled after a devastating fire on June 15. Demolition crews from JM Environmental, Inc. have begun carefully deconstructing the structure, removing bricks and sections to stabilize the building before heavier equipment is brought in for the final teardown.
According to FOX40, the demolition team from JM Environmental, Inc. is focusing on carefully chipping away sections of the fifth floor to stabilize the building. Project manager Douglas Stephens explained that this early phase is aimed at securing the structure and preventing any debris from falling unintentionally during the larger demolition process.
The demolition of the Hotel Marysville marks both an ending and a preparation for future development. This follows a lawsuit by the City of Marysville against the hotel's owners, resulting in a $700K settlement and the city gaining ownership of the property. The demolition is set to begin on Wednesday, bringing down a building that had stood for over a century as part of the city's architectural history.
As reported by Appeal-Democrat, J&M Environmental Inc. took immediate action Thursday morning last week, with workers in a boom lift at the northeast corner of the hotel removing the top floor walls. Bricks were seen falling to the ground as the supports were dismantled. Micah Yip, a reporter for Appeal-Democrat, learned from a company representative that this step is a precautionary measure to ensure safety before the more significant demolition work begins on Wednesday.
