Sixteen-year-old Zechariah Cartledge completed his final mile run last night to honor the lives of fallen first responders, culminating a years-long initiative that involved running 1,572 miles. As reported by FOX 35 Orlando, this feat marked the end of an intense personal commitment that began when Zechariah was ten.
In a statement detailed by FOX 35 Orlando, "It's really just a way to come up one more time and honor the 1,571 first responders I've been able to help with this organization," Cartledge said. "So it's a really big night for running for heroes. The end of an era."
According to a report from WFTV, the initiative has garnered substantial support, with hundreds of family members, youth runners, and various law enforcement agencies converging to witness the final mile. This last run took place at Decision Tactical in Sanford, honoring Sgt. Elio Diaz, from Charlotte County, was killed during a traffic stop earlier that month.
