A former administrator at a prestigious Charlotte private school has turned himself in to the authorities, facing a slew of charges tied to alleged secret peeping activities. Scott Michael Waybright, the former assistant head of school at Charlotte Country Day School, is accused of utilizing a photographic imaging device to secretly capture images of unsuspecting individuals, as reported by WBTV on Saturday.

After Waybright, 58, surrendered to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police yesterday, he was charged with five counts of possession of a photographic image obtained in violation of the peeping statute, and five counts of secretly using a photographic imaging device to view another’s body or undergarments, said police. Notably, the alleged offenses took place on or around January 1, 2023, according to court documentation. Waybright's employment with the school ceased last Monday, shortly before these allegations surfaced, detailed a report by QC News.

The investigation into Waybright was prompted by Charlotte Country Day School officials who contacted the police on November 29 with suspicions of his misconduct. Waybright, who began his tenure at the school as a middle school science teacher in 1995, has had his information and photographs purged from the school's website. In light of his arrest, he was booked into the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and subsequently posted a $50,000 bond. His court appearance is scheduled for Monday as per WCNC Charlotte.

This incident marks a troubling trend within the educational establishment. It is the second time an employee from Charlotte Country Day School has been accused of inappropriate sexual conduct. Previously, Matthew Elliott, a former track coach was arrested in late November on charges of indecent liberties with a female student, alleges WCNC Charlotte. In a statement obtained by WCNC Charlotte, the victim, now an adult, recounted Elliott's flirtations and advances during her time at the school. Charlotte Country Day School has yet to publicly comment on Waybright's case, but community members with knowledge of the situation are encouraged to reach out to Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
