Fort Worth is gearing up to temporarily close most city services during the upcoming Christmas holiday. According to an article published on Fort Worth's official website, residents should prepare for changes in service schedules, especially where city offices and waste collection are concerned.
City Hall and other local government offices are set to shut down on Wednesday, Dec. 25, however, residents can take some comfort knowing emergency services will continue to operate as usual. To accommodate the holiday, solid waste services are going to slightly modify their pickup schedule. No collections of garbage, recycling, yard waste, or bulk items are slated for Dec. 25. Those normally serviced on Wednesday can expect their collection to be shifted to the following day and the subsequent days directly after — with Thursday pickups moving to Friday and Friday service shifting to Saturday. "All residents are allowed two extra bags of garbage next to the cart on their first pickup day following Christmas," states the City of Fort Worth announcement.
Further details on the city's solid waste policy over the holidays clarify that the extra bags will be collected by a separate truck, potentially at different times than the carts, hence is no need to report a missed collection if only the extra bags remain. This collection will resume normalcy after the holiday season. The Drop-Off Stations along with the Environmental Collection Center are closing their doors on Christmas Day too, but will reopen the next day.
There's more to the holiday schedule beyond waste pick-up. If you have pets or are considering adoption, note that the North Animal Campus and the Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center will maintain normal hours on Dec. 24, but will not open on Dec. 25. Meanwhile, both Hulen and Alliance PetSmart Adoption Centers are set to be closed on Christmas Day but will promptly reopen with regular hours on Dec. 26. For those who find solace among books or leisure, the Fort Worth Public Library locations will follow a similar pattern, closing on Dec. 25. As for recreational amenities, several adjustments have been made — community centers will close early on Dec. 24 and remain closed the following day, alongside the Haws Athletic Center, FW@6 programs, and other facilities. "Municipal golf courses close at 3 p.m. Dec. 24 and remain closed Dec. 25," the City of Fort Worth detailed.
