Four individuals were arrested in connection with a road rage incident that escalated into an attempted carjacking and assault with a firearm on the evening of December 8 in Bloomington, as reported by the SBSD Fontana Sheriff's Department. Among those apprehended are Angel Ruiz and April Campos, both in their late teens, along with two male juveniles whose identities remain confidential due to their age.
Affected by the chaos of the encounter, a victim, who was returning home from work, described the horror as a white Ram truck crashed into their vehicle, destroying the side mirror near the Sierra westbound off-ramp of Interstate 10. According to the official release, the suspects in the truck pursued the victim, brandishing an assault rifle at Jurupa Avenue and Alder Avenue, and demanded their vehicle. In fear for their life, the victim managed to escape and contact law enforcement for help.
After Deputy Gentry from the Fontana Station responded, a detailed description of the suspects and their vehicle was shared with surrounding agencies, prompting a swift multi-departmental collaboration. With the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation, Fontana Police found a vehicle matching the description, a white Ram truck, in the South Ridge area. Despite the driver being detained, two suspects attempted to flee on foot, only to be intercepted by Aviation providing the location to deputies who later conducted a felony traffic stop on their getaway vehicle.
During a felony traffic stop conducted by authorities, Campos, Ruiz, and one of the male juveniles were detained. Following two positive infield line-ups, the victim identified the assailants who wielded the assault rifle. Inside the Ram truck, deputies discovered a ghost gun—an unserialized assault-style rifle with a high-capacity magazine, further substantiating the grave nature of the incident. "Gentry conducted an infield line up with the victim, who positively identified two of the males in the truck who pointed an assault rifle and attempted to carjack him," the Sheriff-coroner's Department detailed.
All four suspects were taken into custody, with Ruiz and Campos being held at the West Valley Detention Center and the juveniles at the San Bernardino Juvenile Hall. Charges encompass assault with a firearm, attempted carjacking, and conspiracy to commit a felony. The investigation remains open, and members of the community with knowledge about the affair are encouraged to reach out to the Fontana Sheriff's Station or the We-Tip Hotline for anonymous tips.
