Late last night, the Gloucester Fire and Police Departments responded to a serious fire incident that required a swift emergency response. According to reports from the Gloucester Police Department, the two-alarm structure fire at 3 Pirmi Lane broke out around 10:22 p.m., spreading heavy flames on the second floor of a multi-unit building. Gloucester Police officers, battling heavy smoke, assisted in evacuations, and three individuals were hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
The coordinated rescue efforts, which involved the use of ground ladders, resulted in five individuals being saved from harm's way. "Due to the incredible work of our first responders, we made numerous rescues," Fire Chief Eric Smith said, according to the Gloucester Police Department. One resident was transported to Beverly Hospital, another to Addison Gilbert Hospital, and a third resident chose to self-transport for evaluation.
Police Chief Edward Conley expressed pride in the bravery shown by the officers and first responders involved. "We are hopeful for the swift recovery of everyone affected by this incident," Chief Conley said in a statement from the Gloucester Police Department, reinforcing the sense of community that connects citizens in times of trial and distress. Despite the successful evacuation, the fire has left many families without homes, and the full extent of the damage has led to the closure of the entire building.
