Arizona's judicial landscape is poised for change as Gov. Katie Hobbs weighs her decision on who will succeed Justice Robert Brutinel on the Arizona Supreme Court. This comes following the announcement by the Commission on Appellate Court Appointments, which has put forward five nominees for the Governor's consideration. The list includes Arizona Court of Appeals Judge – Division I, Maria Elena Cruz, and Nicole C. Davis, currently the Deputy Director, General Counsel, and Chief Governance Officer at the Department of Economic Security.
Andrew M. Jacobs, Regina L. Nassen, and Alexander W. Samuels are among the candidates being considered for the position. Jacobs serves on the Arizona Court of Appeals – Division I, Nassen is Tucson's Principal Assistant Attorney, and Samuels is the Principal Deputy Solicitor General for the Arizona Attorney General’s Office. The nominees bring a range of legal expertise, reflecting the diversity of Arizona's legal community.
As per the Commission’s website, the public can conveniently access the nominees' applications. This transparency move ensures that Arizonans can familiarise themselves with the credentials of those vying to interpret and uphold the laws of their state.
