The Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in solving the unsolved murder of Linda Marie Meteer, which has remained a mystery for over 30 years. According to the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office on their Facebook page, authorities brought attention to the case on what would have been her 77th birthday on Christmas Eve. Meteer was a mother of five from the Traverse City area.

First reported missing on April 20, 1989, Meteer was last seen leaving a bar in Chum's Corner. A week later, her body was found in Hoosier Valley, near Vance Road. The investigation stalled over time, but the sheriff’s office remains committed to solving the case. Advances in forensic science may provide new opportunities to make progress in the investigation, as reported by Mlive.

Western Michigan University's Cold Case Program is helping investigate Meteer's death by providing forensic science, law, and criminal investigation expertise. Their work includes creating organized timelines and searchable databases to aid the case. Capt. Chris Clark said, "We have gone over what they organized and developed for us." Authorities are hopeful that new DNA evidence could lead to a breakthrough. Clark added, "There are people out there that have information about this case that just have not come forward and we're looking for those people to do that." Anyone with information is urged to contact the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 231-995-5002 or 231-995-5037, as stated by The Detroit News
