A driver working for Greene County Solid Waste, identified as Kenny Ricker, tragically lost his life Monday morning when his garbage truck skidded off the road and crashed into a tree in Greeneville. WVLT reported that the incident occurred around 9:22 a.m. near the intersection of East McKee Street and Winchester Drive. According to the Greeneville Police Department (GPD), the truck momentarily went off-road, then came back and rolled onto its passenger side before making an impact.
Despite the quick response of emergency crews, Ricker could not be saved from the crash's severity. Dropped off the edge of the road originally, the truck was stated to have suffered considerable damage, rendering it disabled, as WBIR details. Police have noted that at the time of the accident, the road was wet and slippery, a potential contributor to the vehicle's tragic trajectory.
Efforts to recover Ricker from the wreckage involved personnel from the Greeneville Fire Department and the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad. Following extrication, his body was transported for an autopsy to the Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, a fact confirmed by all reporting outlets.
The GPD provided a detailed account of the incident, including a crash diagram, underscoring the tragic sequence of events that led to Ricker's untimely death. The crash impact, when the truck then hit a tree in the cab area, was pronounced on the opposite side of the road, as WJHL disclosed. The community remembers Ricker in mourning, as the investigation into the exact cause of the accident continues.
