A sheriff's deputy and another driver were taken to the hospital after a late-night crash at a busy Harris County intersection. The collision happened just after midnight when the deputy, responding to a stabbing with lights and sirens on, hit another car at Mason Road and Colonial Parkway.
A report by Click2Houston suggests that the police vehicle went on to careen into a tree post-impact while the nature of the crash left baffled authorities to wonder which party may have failed to heed the red light quickly enough. Both parties were taken to the hospital as a precaution.
The collision's aftermath drew focus on the health of those involved and according to FOX 26 Houston, a sheriff’s office statement confirmed that both the deputy and the woman, who is in her 60s, were in fair condition following the crash. Despite the violent end to the chase, with the deputy's car striking a tree and the other car stopping in the intersection, it appeared the quick response to medical needs may have averted more severe outcomes.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact details of the incident, and no conclusions have been reached about who is at fault. "Investigators say they will determine who ran the red light," according to FOX 26 Houston.
