An employee at the Blue Bird liquor store in Hawthorne was injured in a stabbing incident during an attempted robbery on Friday night, as reported by KTLA. Hawthorne police responded to a call initially reported as a shooting at about 7:32 p.m. at the establishment located on Hawthorne Boulevard. On their way to the scene, they were informed that the situation had indeed quickly turned from a robbery to a physical altercation, resulting in the employee being stabbed twice.
Authorities have been actively searching for the two suspects, described as Hispanic males with thin builds and approximately 17 years old. They were seen fleeing the scene on foot shortly before the police's arrival and currently remain at large. Meanwhile, the injured employee was rushed to a local hospital with injuries that have been declared non-life-threatening.
In a separate account, CBS News Los Angeles identified the victim as the owner of the Bluebird Liquor store. The Bluebird Liquor store is not only a neighborhood fixture but also known for its reputation as a "lucky" location where numerous lottery jackpot winners have purchased their tickets. Over the past decades, this establishment has sold at least four jackpot tickets that have captured the imaginations and hopes of countless lotto enthusiasts.
NBC Los Angeles adds that Bluebird Liquor, already ranking in the top five retailers for winning tickets in the state of California, has sold a total of eight winning tickets, which includes four Powerball and four Mega Millions, since just 2021. As the victim remains in stable condition, the police continue to vigorously investigate the case, urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in their ongoing search for the suspects.
