A Hays County incident resulted in the death of a man following a roadside confrontation between two drivers. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the events that led to 45-year-old John Paul Ramirez being struck by a vehicle, as reported by KVUE.
On Nov. 29, Ramirez and another driver, now identified as Charles Allen Rice, were said to have exited their vehicles near US 290 and Nutty Brown Road. Sometime during their altercation, Ramirez fell into the eastbound lane, where an oncoming vehicle hit him. Despite being transported to an Austin hospital, he was pronounced deceased, according to details released by DPS.
The Hays County Sheriff's Office arrested Rice in connection with the death of Ramirez. Rice has been charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony. Subsequently, he was released on a $25,000 bond, Yahoo News reports. The other driver in the crash has not been charged.
The altercation and subsequent accident caused significant disruption, with eastbound lanes of the roadway being temporarily closed. Authorities advised drivers at the time to seek alternative routes as the investigation and response activities were underway. At present, the specifics of what sparked the argument between Ramirez and Rice, have not been disclosed by the DPS.
