Tragedy struck early morning on Williams Road when a black 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee lost control and crashed, resulting in the death of two individuals and leaving a third in critical condition. According to a media release by the Columbus Division of Police, the vehicle traveled eastbound on Williams Road. It was approaching the S. 6th Street intersection at a high rate of speed around 4:17 a.m. yesterday.
The report details that after the vehicle struck a utility pole, it continued to careen out of control southeast into the yards of residences. It finally stopped upon impacting a large tree near 181 Williams Road. The momentum was severe enough to eject all three occupants from the Jeep. "Adult Victim #1 and Adult Victim #2 were pronounced dead at the scene at 4:26 a.m.," the statement read, taken from the Columbus Division of Police Government website. The third adult, known as Adult Victim #3, was transported to Grant Medical Center by responding EMS units and "remains listed in critical condition at this time."
The Columbus Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash. However, the names of the deceased and injured have not yet been released as authorities work to positively identify the victims and ensure that family members are duly notified. The department's investigation could shed more light on the cause of the high-speed impact and whether external factors played any role.
