
A Highland man, with a history of theft convictions, was arrested on Friday morning after being caught stealing from a local AM/PM convenience store, incurring an elevated charge under the state's new theft-related law.
Salvador Rodriguez, 46, was detained by deputies after store employees reported the theft of food items at approximately 10:27 a.m., he was found across the street from the store, identified by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department through the alert given by the store's staff which led to his detainment and later on a check revealed his prior convictions raising the stakes of the petty theft to a steeper consequence owing to California's recently passed Proposition 36, known as “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act” which became effective from December 18, as detailed by the SBSD Highland Police Department.
Rodriguez's bail has been set at $30,000, Deputy T.
