A tragic single-vehicle collision in Caddo County, Oklahoma, claimed the life of a Hinton man and left another person in critical condition yesterday morning. Jimmy L. Wilhoit, 62, was driving a pickup truck on Old 66 Road near Bridgeport when he encountered a difficult stretch of road, according to KOCO.
According to the KSWO coverage, the trouble began around 10:30 a.m. when the vehicle, hit a rough patch that led to Wilhoit losing control. The pickup went into a broadside slide, and, subsequently exited the roadway striking both a utility pole, and a pipe fence. Both occupants of the vehicle, were ejected due to not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
Following the collision, emergency services transported Wilhoit to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, while his passenger, 42-year-old Clayton W. Adams of Austin, Texas, was reported to be in critical condition. The details pertaining to Adams's medical status or the specific nature of his injuries have not been made public.
The KFOR news team also verified that neither Wilhoit nor Adams were using seatbelts, a factor that likely contributed to the severity of the outcomes for both men. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol's report stressed the incident arose after the truck hit a rough patch, which initiated the fatal slide.
