Houston residents can expect an increase in cloud cover today, with temperatures peaking in the mid-60s. According to the National Weather Service, the skies will mostly be sunny with an east wind around 10 mph. But don't be fooled by today's calm weather--changes are on the horizon.
As the evening approaches, there's a slight chance of showers starting after 4 am, with tonight's low forecasted around 54 degrees. The weather shift is tied to a coastal low predicted to trundle up the Texas Gulf Coast, bringing with it increased chances of showers and storms. "Rain returns mid-week: We are tracking a coastal low that will bring rain chances back in the forecast this week," reports Click2Houston. Their forecast suggests rain may hold off until after 10 PM Tuesday.
Wednesday is expected to be fairly messy as the system moves along the coastline, leading to wet roads and potential disruptions to the daily commute. The chance of precipitation jumps to 80 percent, with showers and possibly a thunderstorm on the docket, per the National Weather Service forecast. Temperatures will reach a high near 71 with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Looking ahead, the unsettled weather is set to continue through the end of the week and into the weekend. "Over the next 7 days we could see up to 2-3 inches of rain across SE Texas," Click2Houston advises. Thursday will still experience showers, with embedded thunderstorms possible. And the forecast anticipates a strong cold front to move through next Monday, expected to clear out the rain and bring in cooler temperatures.
