A man from Illinois faced the long arm of the law at an Orange County mall, caught red-handed with a horde of stolen Apple products. According to a report by KTLA, Malcolm Walker, 30, was apprehended at the Spectrum Center mall in Irvine when he tried walking away with approximately $1,200 worth of goods from the Apple store.
The merchandise was neatly stowed away in an Apple shopping bag that Walker brought, perhaps to lend an air of legitimacy to his heist. The swift action by loss prevention workers at the store ensured that police officers arrived in time to detain him. But the discovery wasn't limited to what he had on him inside the mall. The Irvine Police uncovered more in Walker’s vehicle—a stash of over $5,000 in additional Apple swag, including a slew of wireless keyboards and three Pencil Pros—as detailed in a Facebook post from the department.
Touted as a trove stolen from various Apple stores across Southern California, these products landed Walker a serious set of charges under the newly enacted Proposition 36 which includes burglary, theft with prior convictions, and possession of stolen property. Walker's short visit to Irvine culminated with him being booked into the Orange County Jail under enhanced bail conditions.
Law enforcement praised the collaborative efforts of Apple Loss Prevention and Spectrum Security. "Thank you to Apple Loss Prevention and Spectrum Security for your great work and partnership," the Irvine Police Department enthused in their social media missive.
