An Inglewood man with an extensive criminal history involving bank robberies and firearms, found guilty of armed robbery after being released early from federal prison, is now facing a return to a cell possibly for the rest of his life. Markham David Bond, 61, was convicted of armed robbery of a Brinks armored vehicle courier just outside of a Chase bank near Los Angeles International Airport in August last year, as detailed by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California.

Bond's criminal actions seem to not have ceased even after he was granted a second chance. He used a gun to steal approximately $145,000 in cash after the Brinks employee, fearing for his life, dropped the duffle bag containing the money. Bond was arrested on November 22, 2023, three months after the robbery took place. Police were able to locate the getaway car and seize evidence, including a firearm and the clothing Bond wore during the crime, at his residence. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Central District of California, the arresting officers also found cash hidden inside a mini-refrigerator.

During the trial, the jury heard evidence of Bond's prior convictions dating back to the 1980s and 1990s. He has been in federal custody since the arrest, facing a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison with his sentencing hearing scheduled for July 11, 2025, as per United States District Judge Wesley L. Hsu's order. "After being given a second chance in life, this defendant sadly chose a path of violent crime," United States Attorney Martin Estrada stated in the release.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division, together have brought Bond's latest stint of crime to an end. The case against Bond was brought to prosecution by Assistant United States Attorneys Haoxiaohan H. Cai and Daniel H. Weiner. For more detailed information, Ciaran McEvoy, Public Information Officer, can be contacted, or interested parties can follow the original press release published by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
