
A tragic occurrence unfolded at the Shelby County Jail on Tuesday when Wesley Joyner, a 29-year-old detainee, was found unresponsive in his cell. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) announced that Joyner was discovered by corrections officers shortly after 5:30 p.m. and despite immediate life-saving attempts by paramedics and the Memphis Fire Department, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Methodist Hospital a little over an hour later at 6:32 p.m., as reported by WREG.
While the exact cause of Joyner's death remains undetermined, initial assessments suggest an overdose may have been the factor, this is based on a statement by the SCSO, an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office is pending which is expected to clarify the circumstances, the information assembled from FOX13 informs us that Joyner had previously pled guilty to drug charges in 2019 and was serving a three-year sentence at the time.
