A juvenile has been taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police Department in connection with a robbery that took place in the Northeast quadrant of the city. According to a press release from MPD, the incident unfolded early in the morning on November 28, when suspects reportedly accosted a victim in the 600 block of Division Avenue.
MPD detailed that the suspects alighted from a vehicle, with one commandeering the victim's scooter while the others snatched the victim's cell phone. After the theft, the suspects made off with the stolen items, evading capture at the time. The juvenile male, aged 16, was arrested on Tuesday following a DC Superior Court custody order and is now charged with Robbery (Fear).
The identity of the juvenile has not been disclosed, in adherence with the legal protections afforded to minors. The police have confirmed that the case is still ongoing and encourage anyone with information relating to the robbery to come forward. In a statement obtained by the Metropolitan Police Department, they urge individuals to "take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411." The department is also offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
