
A tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning in northwest Charlotte where a juvenile was struck and killed by a vehicle. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has not released details regarding the identity of the juvenile or the circumstances leading up to the crash at this time, as reported by WCNC Charlotte.
First responders arrived on the scene at Gum Branch Road around 7:30 a.m. and found the juvenile had already sustained severe injuries, they immediately rushed the victim to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center, but despite the medical team's efforts, the child succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead, according to a statement obtained by WSOC-TV.
The location of the accident, near the intersection of Gum Branch Road and Summerlea Drive became the nucleus of a severe interruption in the daily flow of commuters, police advocating avoidance of the area to enable an unobstructed investigation as WBTV notes, a sentiment echoed by CMPD in their advisories to the public.
