A Kalamazoo jury has delivered a verdict of guilty on charges of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of felony firearm against 22-year-old Axel Armando Zuniga-Rivera. As reported by FOX 17 Online, the conviction stems from the 2023 shooting death of Marcell Savon Alguarelles-Bell, aged 24.
Zuniga-Rivera was identified by the victim as the shooter before succumbing to multiple gunshot wounds inflicted on the 1600 block of East Stockbridge Avenue in Kalamazoo. The jury's verdict was reached on Friday, and Zuniga-Rivera's sentencing is slated for 1:30 p.m. on January 20, 2025.
According to WOODTV, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded immediately to the incident, providing medical care before the victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The reprieve from this tragic incident comes from law enforcement's collaborative efforts that culminated in Zuniga-Rivera's arrest on September 7, 2023, in Indianapolis, following a brief period as a fugitive.
