Following a tense manhunt that spanned over a week, authorities have apprehended a kidnapping and assault suspect in Paramount, California. Olga Mendez, 44, of Menifee, was arrested on Friday, in connection with a violent incident that unfolded on the morning of December 18 in Winchester, an unincorporated area of Perris. Initially reported as a domestic dispute, deputies dispatched to Olive Avenue and Leon Road discovered a more harrowing scene—a kidnapping coupled with assault with deadly weapon, revealed in a release by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, where they received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, Mendez managed to evade deputies by fleeing the scene before their arrival, sparking an intense search of the area that ultimately proved unsuccessful. The case was then handed over to the Perris Station Special Enforcement Team, who followed leads that led to Mendez's capture nine days later. According to Sergeant Bradly Talbott of the Riverside Sheriff's Department, Mendez is now being held at the Cois Byrd Detention Center, facing charges of kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and two unrelated warrants.
