Kingsport is looking to teach its young ones a thing or two about bike safety and the basics of pedaling. According to the City of Kingsport, the Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out a month-long TREADZ program. Starting January 9 and continuing every Thursday until January 30, the Kingsport Farmers Market will host these classes from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tailored for the young learners ages 2 to 12, the program calls for a bit of do-it-yourself spirit.

Ensuring children get their first taste of cycling, TREADZ partners with Reedy Creek Bicycles and Just Ride Bikes & Fitness. In a class designed for the small ones to physically maneuver and engage, they learn everything from basic balance to more sophisticated bike-handling skills. Interested parents should know that the cost is $15 per child and, given by the local instructors, who are expected to instill confidence in their young cyclists while promoting health and well-being.

"The TREADZ program encourages physical activity, skill development, and just a general love for biking," Jason Wilburn, Program Administrator, articulated the spirit behind the sessions. Wilburn's focus on the overall enhancement of kids' capabilities echoes in a quote he gave, stating, via the City of Kingsport, "With hands-on guidance from our local instructors, the kids will quickly gain confidence while improving their overall health and well-being."
