Joshua Allen Sheen, a 39-year-old man from Kurtistown, has been charged with multiple offenses following a domestic dispute. The charges include possession of forbidden firearms and ammunition, violations related to firearm registration, abuse of a household member, and terroristic threatening. The charges were filed on Tuesday, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Hawaiʻi Island police were notified on Monday morning when a 29-year-old woman reported being assaulted with a bowl during an argument. The woman also claimed that Sheen threatened to harm her and damage her property. It was "subsequently determined that Sheen is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms," police stated. Sheen was arrested after voluntarily visiting the Pahoa Police Station for an unrelated matter. A search of his vehicle and home revealed unregistered rifles, a stolen altered shotgun, and a large amount of ammunition, as reported by the Hawaii Police Department.
Police reported that during Sheen's arrest, officers found "a glass smoking pipe and marijuana" in his vehicle. A further search revealed more than 10 grams of processed marijuana. In addition to the weapons charges, Sheen's bail is set at $290,000, and he remains in custody until his court appearance on Wednesday afternoon. Detectives are also investigating the theft of a shotgun and plan to refer this part of the case to the prosecution once the investigation is complete. Anyone with information is asked to contact Acting Detective Corey Kaneko of the Area I Juvenile Aid Section, as stated by the Hawaii Police Department.
