An incident unfolded in Lapeer County, Michigan, where a woman died after attempting to save her dog from a partially frozen pond; the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office reported the death of the 33-year-old homeowner. The call regarding a possible drowning was received by authorities on Wednesday evening leading them to a residential area on Armstrong Road in Goodland Township where they discovered the pond with a dangerous mixture of ice and open water, as detailed by WNEM.
Emergency responders from local fire departments, as stated by CBS News Detroit, encountered a serious situation with the dog deceased and visible in the water, while the woman who owned the home was missing upon their arrival firefighters used a paddle boat to reach them breaking through roughly an inch of ice that had formed over the pond. The responders located and retrieved the body of the woman whose identity was not immediately disclosed.
According to ABC12, an ambulance transported the woman to McLaren Lapeer Region hospital where life-saving measures were attempted, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead approximately two hours after being pulled from the pond around 7:50 p.m; the dog was also pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff's office has not yet been able to determine how long the woman and her dog had been in the water before they were discovered, investigators are continuing to look into the events that led up to this incident.
