In a decisive move against drug trafficking, U.S Customs and Border Protection officers at the Colombia Solidarity Port of Entry intercepted a massive $6.9 million methamphetamine shipment. The seizure, reported to have occurred on Monday, involved more than 757 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within a cargo truck's shipment. The drugs, discovered at the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge, were found hidden in containers purportedly carrying water for painting.
Albert Flores, Port Director at the Laredo Port of Entry, lauded the officers for their efforts. "This seizure highlights the dedication and vigilance of our officers who work tirelessly to safeguard our borders. Their hard work and keen attention to detail helped prevent dangerous contraband from entering our communities," Flores stated in a CBP release.
During an in-depth secondary inspection that included a CBP canine team and a physical inspection, authorities found the narcotics. The drugs were stashed in 16 jugs within the cargo. The methamphetamine has an estimated street value of nearly $7 million, signifying a substantial financial blow to the operations of the involved drug smuggling entities.
The seizure of these narcotics highlights the ongoing effort at U.S. borders, where officials work to prevent the illegal drug trade from entering the country. Following the seizure, Homeland Security Investigations special agents were quick to open up a criminal investigation.
