After months of meticulous investigation spanning multiple states, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office has succeeded in apprehending and extraditing a suspect in a heinous case of animal cruelty that left one dog dead and another severely injured. The distressing incident, which occurred in a peaceful Wellington yard on August 29, 2022, has finally moved toward closure with the arrest of David Thompson, a 47-year-old man from Scotland, Arkansas. According to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, the accused had no apparent links to the home, its residents, or the animals he is alleged to have attacked.
Following a key tip from the community, investigators embarked on a journey encompassing the collection of both forensic and digital evidence which culminated in an interview with Thompson in Arkansas. The warrant issued for Thompson's arrest netted him on two counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty (F6), and his extradition took place in late November. He faces a $15,000 cash/surety bond as set by the Larimer County Court. "Our team put considerable effort into identifying the person responsible and building a strong, evidence-based case," said Captain Bobby Moll of the LCSO Investigations division, as per Larimer County Sheriff’s Office, expressing hope for the comfort of the aggrieved family.
The LCSO has extended its gratitude to the assisting agencies in this tragic case. Both the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office and the North Little Rock Police Department played pivotal roles in navigating the arduous process of bringing the suspect to justice. Their collaborative efforts have not only underscored the gravity of the crime but have also underscored the inter-departmental cooperation necessary to tackle such egregious instances of violence against animals.
