A mountain biker's Saturday excursion took a drastic turn, prompting a rescue operation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPDSAR). According to an Instagram post from LVMPDSAR, the incident occurred yesterday when the individual, navigating the "G-Thang" mountain bike trail near Blue Diamond, lost control and tumbled into a wash, resulting in a fractured ankle.
The accident occurred at about 2 p.m., and rescue personnel aboard their helicopter, AIR3, were dispatched to the site. Two SAR officers were inserted via one skid near the victim's location, despite the challenges of navigating the rough terrain and the risks posed by such a remote setting. AIR3's team treated the victim and prepared them for evacuation. According to a report by LVMPDSAR, the individual was then extracted using the same skid and transported to a BLM Fire Station before being transferred to a local hospital for further treatment.
This incident underscores the critical role of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue (LVMPD SAR) team. Trained for such emergencies, the team demonstrated swift and skilled action, potentially preventing more severe consequences for the injured biker.
