The Nevada Department of Transportation has announced overnight closures along parts of Interstate 15 to install advanced traffic management technology. Northbound lanes will be closed on Wednesday night, and southbound lanes will be closed on Thursday night. These closures are part of an effort to improve traffic flow in Southern Nevada, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.
Nevada Department of Transportation has announced lane closures on I-15 for two nights. On Wednesday, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., northbound I-15 will be closed from Russell Road to Tropicana Avenue, along with the westbound I-215 ramp to northbound I-15. Access to Frank Sinatra Drive and Russell Road will remain open. Southbound I-15 will be reduced to three lanes between Flamingo Road and Hacienda Avenue. On Thursday, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., southbound I-15 will be closed from Flamingo Road to Russell Road, with ramp closures at Flamingo Road, Harmon Avenue, and Tropicana Avenue. Northbound I-15 will also be reduced to three lanes between Hacienda Avenue and Flamingo Road. This work is for the installation of Active Traffic Management signs.
The State is installing Active Traffic Management signs to improve traffic flow and safety. These signs, some weighing as much as nine elephants, will give real-time updates to help reduce congestion and prevent crashes. Nevada Department of Transportation says similar systems have been shown "to reduce secondary crashes by up to 30%." Drivers should be cautious, patient, and consider alternate routes. For updates on road conditions, Nevada Department of Transportation partners with Waze and provides information at dot.nv.gov or through the 511 hotline.
