As holiday celebrations draw near, the buzz of last-minute shoppers is palpable in cities like Austin and Burlington, where local businesses are noting an increase in foot traffic and sales. Shoppers in Austin, readying for Christmas, have been flocking to places such as The Domain to pick up final gifts and attire
"My mom, definitely like a bracelet or something like that. We're going to go to the Domain later," shared Austin resident, Drew Gossnel, in a statement obtained by CBS Austin, illustrating the trend despite the ease of online shopping, patrons are hitting the brick-and-mortar shops for those last-minute items, meanwhile in Burlington businesses like Homeport and Outdoor Gear Exchange, are also witnessing a surge of patrons, energized not just by the festive spirit but also propelled by a narrower shopping window this season since Christmas and Hanukkah coincide.
Over at Toy Joy in Austin's downtown, manager Diana Rosales observed a departure from last year's shopping behaviors, "Especially right now, I think a lot of people are doing the last minute gift shopping," Rosales told CBS Austin. In contrast, Burlington businesses are not just dealing with gift shoppers but also those preparing for what they'll wear during the holiday, with shifts in the weather causing some to rethink their wardrobe choices, "So, some people have bought warmer outfits and they're not realizing 'I need a shorter dress or skirt', or something like that," said Camryn Spooner, Sales Associate at Hemline, as mentioned to CBS Austin.
Mark Bouchett, co-owner of Homeport, emphasized the critical nature of the final weekend before the holidays, "This is a very important weekend for us," Bouchett said in a myNBC5 interview, Outdoor Gear Exchange is also bracing for a record-breaking crowd, "The Saturday before Christmas is the busiest day, even more than Black Friday," employee Viva Goetze announced, the concurrence of Christmas and Hanukkah only intensifies the rush both for those celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah with the compressed timeframe adding pressure to complete shopping on time.
As the countdown to Christmas Eve continues, it seems retailers in both Austin and Burlington are poised for a lucrative holiday season, gleaning the benefits of a holiday shopping trend that shows little signs of waning, even in an age where online shopping prevails. Understanding this, businesses are likely to keep their doors open and shelves stocked, catering to the rush right up to the last possible moment, ensuring that procrastinators and planners alike can find what they need in the nick of time.
