Liberty County is facing a growing issue with stray dog attacks. The community, lacking a specialized animal control division, is seeking solutions. Judge Jay H. Knight is collaborating with county leaders to address the problem and find a viable solution, according to Click2Houston.

Stray dogs have been a growing problem in the area for months. Deven Clarke and Matt James nearly got attacked while investigating. Amanda Jordan, a dog rescuer, lost five pet cats to the dogs. Some residents now carry mace or weapons for protection. Shelby Bobosky from Texas Humane Legislation says the issue is well-known locally. Emily Curtis was attacked by the dogs on Thanksgiving and now carefully checks her surroundings. The same dogs had attacked a FedEx worker and another person the day before, as reported by ABC13.

Liberty County doesn't have an animal control department, leaving residents like Curtis feeling unsafe. "I don't feel safe at all," Curtis said. The sheriff's office can only issue warnings, and residents are told to shoot if they feel threatened. Bobosky urges people to contact their commissioners about the issue. While officials work on a solution, some residents, including Curtis, are thinking about leaving due to safety concerns. County Judge Knight is committed to addressing the problem, as stated by Click2Houston and ABC13.
