FBI agents have searched the residence of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams, as part of an investigation into a bomb threat aimed at City Hall, various outlets reported. According to Patch, the Los Angeles Police Department announced in a statement that Williams is considered the "likely" source of the threat which led to the Los Angeles City Hall being targeted earlier this year. The nature of the alleged threat has not been detailed to the public.

"Earlier this year the LAPD responded to a bomb threat made against Los Angeles City Hall," LAPD said in the statement. Williams, who oversees public safety as part of his role, has subsequently been placed on administrative leave following these allegations. "Our initial investigation revealed that the source of the threat was likely from Brian Williams, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety," the LAPD said. "Due to the Department’s working relationship with Mr. Williams, the investigation was referred to the FBI," as stated by Patch.

In response to the developments, Mayor Karen Bass's office released its statement, which was shared by FoxLA. "He was immediately placed on administrative leave. The Mayor takes this matter very seriously," said Zach Seidl, a spokesperson for the Mayor's Office. "When the threat was reported, LAPD investigated and determined there was no immediate danger. Following additional investigation, LAPD referred this matter to the FBI." Seidl emphasized that the mayor's office is handling the situation with the gravity it warrants.
