
A fire was extinguished by the Los Angeles Fire Department after tearing through a commercial building in Sawtelle on the eve of December 30, 2024. According to the LAFD alert, the blaze began at 07:36 PM inside a one-story structure located at 11173 W Pico Boulevard.
The initial response involved a cadre of firefighters who descended upon the raging flames, the building, approximately 150 feet by 50 feet in dimension, was notably ablaze with fire penetrating through the roof prompting the call for additional resources as the situation unfurled on site. The fire department reported that the response involved units from Battalions 18 and 9 amongst others, indicating the gravity of the conflagration requiring a concerted and robust approach from the city services.
Efforts to contain the fire paid off as it was reported knocked down at 08:08 PM, some 32 minutes after the firefighters' arrival. The first arriving 42 firefighters managed to quell the fire even before the additional task forces could join their ranks. As stated in the LAFD knockdown notice, "The fire was prevented from extending to any exposed structures."
In an outstanding display of coordination, not a single injury was reported in the aftermath—a testament to the diligence and expertise of firefighters and emergency personnel. The teams at the scene comprised various units, from Engine Companies E37, E59, and E62, to specialized Task Forces such as T37 and T63 and they worked seamlessly together, ensuring that what could have potentially been a more disastrous event, was instead contained in under an hour a shining illustration of their commitment to safeguarding the community.
