An Army National Guard soldier is facing a murder charge following a fatal shooting at a residence on Fort Eisenhower. Natravien Landry, 25, from Abbeville, Louisiana, was charged, as stated in a press release by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia.
Details emerged during Landry's initial court appearance yesterday that the soldier, assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company, is alleged to have visited the home of a woman who shares a child with him, early morning on Saturday, Dec. 14. It was at this residence that he is accused of assaulting and fatally shooting a man present with the woman. Landry then purportedly fled the scene, and was apprehended by Meriwether County Sheriff's Office deputies approximately three hours later, south of Atlanta on Interstate 85, where a 9 mm pistol was recovered.
The proceeding, overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Brian K. Epps, laid out the events leading to Landry's arrest. A subsequent detention hearing is scheduled tomorrow. While criminal complaints are merely charges, the accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Landry is now confined to the Lincoln County Jail, after being taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service. The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Henry W. Syms Jr., Patricia G. Rhodes, Kelsey L. Scanlon and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Capt. Jacqueline M. Stryker, all tasked with prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
