A serious fire in a Lynn residence yesterday morning resulted in hospitalization for one individual. WHDH reports that the Lynn Fire Department responded to smoke alerts from a three-story building at 104 Lewis Street at around 11:43 a.m., where they discovered a unit on the third floor engulfed in flames.
Despite the blaze's ferocity, firefighters were able to quickly locate and begin resuscitating the unresponsive victim inside. En route to Salem Hospital, the victim was resuscitated, although their current condition remains undisclosed. The fire was reportedly under control within the span of an hour, and damage was restrained mainly to the unit of origin, though other apartments suffered smoke and water damage.
At least five people have been reported to be displaced by the incident. Smoke detectors were active at the time of the fire, signaling that at least some safety measures were in place. "Our crew did a great job of limiting the fire damage and giving the victim the best chance for survival," Lynn Fire Chief Dan Sullivan expressed in a statement shared with Boston 25 News.
The investigation to fully determine the cause of the fire continues, conducted by local and state officials. Meanwhile, the neighborhood was notably disrupted by emergency services as they worked to securely manage and finally extinguish the fire. A video from the scene showcased the heavy presence of emergency personnel necessary to address the situation effectively. Firefighters' efforts were commendable, managing to save a life and limit the damage to what could have potentially been a far more devastating event.
