The city of Lynnwood has ushered in a new era for its Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department with the appointment of Joel Faber as its next Director. This unanimous decision by the Lynnwood City Council was confirmed on November 25th, according to a news release from the city's official website.

Faber, a Lynnwood City veteran of over a quarter-century, steps up from managing community-centered programs, like the teen volunteer program and the city's health and wellness classes, to taking charge of the city's sprawling array of parks and cultural initiatives. His commitment to the community shines through in his previous roles as Special Events and Health and Wellness Supervisor and Recreation Superintendent; positions that tasked him with overseeing the city's signature events—the Float Program, Civic Lights, the 4th of July Fireworks, Eggstravaganza—and managing major operations of the Recreation Center after its 2011 remodel, which ushered in new programs in aquatics, customer service, and activities for citizens aged 62 and above.

Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell celebrated Faber's promotion, noting that "Joel Faber has more than two decades of experience serving our community with our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts team. He has played a crucial role in the success of our Recreation Center as its Superintendent. His ability to lead, collaborate, communicate, and strategize will be a tremendous asset in his role as our next Director. I look forward to his leadership in this department's next chapter," Faber stated on the city's website.

Aside from his professional life, Faber is a father to three boys and an outdoor enthusiast who unwinds by traversing trails with his family and playing racquetball, bringing a personal passion for recreation and nature to his new office. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Leisure Services from Central Washington University and an in-progress MBA from Western Governors University that is expected to be completed this month.
