A South Carolina man has been arrested and faces multiple charges including attempted murder following a Christmas Eve shooting in Rock Hill. As per reports from the local authorities, the Rock Hill Police Department responded to an emergency call at around 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, in a neighborhood on Robinson Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 25-year-old male with several gunshot wounds, as shared in a statement obtained by QC News.
The victim was quickly transported to the Piedmont Medical Center with injuries deemed serious, but not life-threatening. According to the police investigation, the victim had been involved in an altercation with 21-year-old Semaj Malik Bernard Evans when the suspect allegedly drew a firearm and shot him. It was further stated that Evans attempted to evade arrest but was eventually apprehended on Carolina Avenue after a brief foot chase. "Evans was located nearby along Carolina Avenue and was arrested after reportedly trying to run away from officers," stated WCNC.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Evans faces several weapon-related offenses. These include possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and two counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling – a concerning detail corroborated by the fact that a home was also struck by gunfire during the incident. The recovered firearm believed to be linked to the shooting was also mentioned in the reports. The account of the arrested suspect being charged was further detailed by an article published by WSOC-TV, stating, "The 21-year-old was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful carrying of a handgun, and two counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling for hitting two homes with gunfire during the incident."
The events leading up to this violent confrontation remain under investigation by the Rock Hill Police Department. Semaj Malik Bernard Evans of Florence has been detained and awaits judicial proceedings to address the allegations.
