A car accident claimed the life of a 34-year-old man from Sturgis in St. Joseph County on last Friday night, authorities confirmed. According to the WOODTV report, the accident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on M-66 near Blackberry Lane in Burr Oak Township, just north of Sturgis. The arrival of law enforcement was triggered by an iPhone crash detection alert that automatically notified emergency services.
As told by WZZM13, they found the vehicle had struck a tree alongside the roadway.
Despite the quick response from authorities, the driver, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. Evidence at the site suggests alcohol may have played a role in the crash, with the sheriff's office considering it as a contributing factor, as mentioned in News Channel 3 report.
The investigation continues as detectives gather more details about the crash.
