An investigation is ongoing following a police shooting that resulted in the death of a man in Anaheim on Friday night. As confirmed in a CBS News Los Angeles report, the incident occurred near the intersection of S. Maywood Street and South Street around 8 p.m. Details leading up to the fatal encounter remain scarce, and the man's identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Initial reports from the Anaheim Police Department suggested that officers were responding to a robbery call in the 1200 block of E. South Street. In a subsequent press release shared via the Anaheim Police Department's Facebook page, it was revealed that the confrontation between Anaheim police officers and an approximately 30-year-old male suspect led to an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was wounded by police gunfire and later pronounced dead at a hospital.
During the incident, a "realistic-looking replica gun" was recovered at the scene, according to KTLA. This aspect of the case is part of an investigation by the California Department of Justice, which was automatically invoked due to the type of weapon found. The officers involved were not injured in the altercation, and no further information has been provided as the inquiry continues.
