A house fire in Beaver Township claimed the life of a man early this morning. The incident took place in the 9000 block of W 7 Mile Road, where emergency crews were called to the scene around 4:25 a.m., according to the Newaygo County Sheriff's Office (NCSO).

Upon arrival, rescue teams managed to quickly pull out a 69-year-old man from the burning home, where life-saving procedures were attempted. However, despite efforts to save him, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman, also 69 years of age, was able to safely evacuate the premises without sustaining injuries. The cause of the fire that led to the man's death remains unclear as investigations to thoroughly ascertain the origin and circumstances continue.

In the wake of the tragedy, 11 different agencies arrived to offer assistance, including the Michigan State Police – Fire Marshall, and various local fire departments such as Fremont Fire Department, Hesperia Area Fire Department, and several others. The Newaygo County Central Dispatch, Mid-Michigan Medical Examiner’s Group, and the Newaygo County Road Commission were also involved in the response.
