A man accused of shooting a Georgia State Patrol K-9 during a pursuit in Coweta County remains at large after a massive manhunt for his capture has been called off. In a chase that unfolded on Wednesday, 51-year-old Ira Troy Williams evaded a traffic stop initiated by Georgia State Patrol, leading them on a high-speed chase that ended near U.S. 29 at Calico Loop in Grantville. Following Williams' evasion into dense woodland, the law enforcement response escalated into hours of intensive search efforts, as documented by FOX 5 Atlanta.

Despite the deployment of multiple law enforcement agencies and a series of road closures, Williams managed to avoid capture. During his flight from the scene of the vehicular crash, Williams is reported to have discharged an AR-15, injuring a Georgia State Patrol K-9 named Amor. "It’s thick; you have creeks, you have old small structures back in there, ravines. It’s very, very thick, very dense woods, and of course, as the night draws, it just becomes totally pitch black," Grantville Mayor Richard Proctor detailed the challenging conditions to FOX 5 Atlanta. The K-9, subsequently taken for emergency care, has been released from BluePearl Pet Hospital in Sandy Springs and is recovering.

The search for Williams, now characterized not as an all-out manhunt but ongoing, has taken a grave turn with revelations of Williams' additional wanted status for murder out of Atlanta. Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood conveyed that Williams possessed an AR-15 during the incident and should be considered "armed and dangerous." Meanwhile, the community was advised to maintain vigilance, locking doors and reporting any suspicious activity until Williams is apprehended. Georgia first lady Marty Kemp added her voice to the public discourse, posting on social media platform X, "Please join me in praying for this K-9’s swift recovery, and for comfort for his handler and family," as reported by WSBTV.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate Williams and have taken out a warrant for aggravated assault on a police officer. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been drafted to look into the officer-involved shooting aspects of the case.
