Authorities in Marin County have made significant arrests following an undercover operation targeting drug trafficking in the region. The Marin County Sheriff's Office detailed the sting in a recent social media post, revealing the culmination of their investigation into a local drug network.
Initiated in November by a detective of the Specialized Investigative Unit (SIU), the operation began when Esteban Barahona approached the undercover detective and offered to sell cocaine. This interaction sparked what would become a series of purchases over several occasions. During these transactions, the detective managed to not only buy but also to effectively infiltrate Barahona's network, which led to the discovery of a second suspect, Erik Garcia, who was identified as the supplier.
With the cooperative effort of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, the SIU moved on Barahona and Garcia last Tuesday, detaining both men. Searches executed at their residences in Sonoma and Petaluma turned up a significant cache of drugs and firearms. "Detectives located over a quarter pound of suspected cocaine, over a half pound of suspected methamphetamine, two operational firearms, ammunition, and over $5,000 in U.S. currency," the Sheriff's Office reported.
Further complicating Garcia's legal woes is the fact that he is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his status as a convicted felon. The suspects were booked into the Marin County Jail, facing a series of narcotics and weapons-related offenses. The Sheriff's office expressed thanks to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office for their aid in bringing to a close this operation effectively.
