The Metropolitan Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred in Southeast Washington, D.C. The incident took place in the late afternoon on Thursday, according to a report from MPD's official news release.
Police received a call around 5:16 p.m. and officers from the Seventh District arrived at the 2000 block of Wade Road, where they discovered a man with gunshot wounds, the emergency medical team responded quickly and the man was transferred to a local hospital but despite all efforts to save him, the victim was ultimately pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Mark Odom, a man who reportedly had no fixed address.
The MPD has issued a plea for assistance to the community, urging anyone with information about this case to come forward. They have stressed that individuals should not take any action on their own but should instead contact the police directly by calling (202) 727-9099 or by texting a tip to the MPD's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411, providing details that could help shed light on this tragic event.
Furthermore, the MPD is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for details leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with the homicide, a strong incentive geared towards encouraging witnesses or people with knowledge about the shooting to assist the police in their ongoing investigation into the death of Mark Odom.
