The Metropolitan Police Department is seeking the community's assistance following a series of robberies in Northeast and Southeast Washington, D.C. on Monday. What distinguishes these crimes is not only their frequency but the use of handguns, which elevated the robberies to armed confrontations. Over the course of just over an hour and a half, three suspects confronted victims, demanding and stealing personal items while threatening gun violence.
Police reported the first incident occurred at 6:01 a.m. on the 600 block of 10th Street, Northeast, where suspects, brandishing handguns, targeted one victim. The thieves were not content with the single robbery and proceeded to a location near 3rd and K Street, Northeast, about half an hour later, attempting to rob another person. They continued their spree at 6:55 a.m. on the 1300 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast, where suspects again displayed a handgun to demand and obtain property from the victims.
Nearly mirroring the earlier offenses, an additional robbery occurred at 7:00 a.m. on the 1800 block of Burke Street, Southeast, with the suspects following the same modus operandi as before.
Suspects continued at a relentless pace, with two more robberies reported during the 7 o'clock hour — at 7:30 a.m. in the 200 block of I Street, Northeast, and another six minutes later in the 600 block of Constitution Avenue, Northeast. The suspects, recorded by surveillance cameras, were seen using handguns to threaten victims and force them to surrender their property.
The individuals have also been linked to stolen credit cards from one of their robberies, apparently using these cards to purchase items. The Metropolitan Police Department has shared photos of the suspects and the vehicle involved in the crimes on their website. Police urge that anyone who can identify these suspects or the vehicle should not approach but contact the department directly at (202) 727-9099 or send an anonymous tip via text to 50411. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment in this case.
